Meet the Owner

Bernadine Birdsong, PhD has more than 30 years in the business sector in management. She previously owned Healing Waters, Inc a wellness center and spa located in Birmingham, Alabama since 2002. She is also a sought after teacher, speaker and mentor. She has authored several books and enjoys spending time with her family.

Family meals have always been a time for inspiration and bonding with loved ones, so when she learned that the iconic Michael’s Steak and Seafood was up for sale, she knew that this was the next right thing to do. She and her family purchased Michael’s from Charles Matsos
(the son of the namesake and original owner Michael Matsos) in 2016. Her mother, Amelia Williams and her son, singer/songwriter Sebastian Kole (namesake for rooftop Bar Sebastian) are her partners. Many of her family members are involved in the daily operations. Their goal is to serve top quality and delicious food in a beautiful and welcoming environment.

The experience was amazing. I loved the vibes of the restaurant and the waiter was wonderful, although I don’t recall her name. They had a nice music selection playing as well. The food was also amazing. I had the lobster Mac and cheese and my girlfriend had the lamb chops and baked potato. It was definitely a 10/10 experience.

The night didn’t start off great but it ended going above my expectations. The staff was extremely nice and helpful even though they had been slammed prior to us getting there. They were out of a few things but nothing I wanted to try, luckily. We started off with the fried green tomatoes. Not my favorite. They lacked seasoning. I then ordered the salmon and was blown away! It was seasoned and cooked to perfection. I got the mac and cheese and broccoli as a side. Both were phenomenal!

HIGHLY RECOMMEND this location especially early in the day. Service was superb, our steaks and side dishes were delectable, and their wine options were excellent. Their steaks did not need the usual steak knives, they’re so tender and juicy, you can cut them with butter knives. We will be returning.

Food and service was excellent. I had lobster bites, salmon with premium mashed potatoes, lobster mac and cheese, bread pudding and lemon drop. My friends had the stuff salmon they said it was excellent too. I do wish they had dedicated parking because roads were blocked off due game so had to walk a bit to get to restaurant.
